AstraZeneca reports five-year adjuvant osimertinib follow-up data in early-stage EGFR-mutated NSCLC

AstraZeneca reports five-year adjuvant osimertinib follow-up data in early-stage EGFR-mutated NSCLC

In brief

  • Five-year follow-up of adjuvant osimertinib in resected EGFR-mutated NSCLC shows the disease-free survival benefit holding across disease stages.
  • The overall survival benefit reported earlier was maintained at five years.
  • No new safety signals emerged; the safety profile stayed consistent with earlier analyses.

What was reported

According to the company, patients who received osimertinib after complete tumour resection continued to show a disease-free survival benefit compared with placebo across disease stages at five years. The previously reported overall survival benefit was maintained, and the safety profile stayed consistent with earlier analyses, with no new safety signals identified.

Background

Osimertinib is a third-generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor. About 30 percent of patients with NSCLC are diagnosed early enough for surgery with curative intent, and recurrence after surgery is common. AstraZeneca reported that EGFR mutations occur in roughly 10 to 15 percent of NSCLC cases in Western populations and in 30 to 40 percent in Asian populations.

What comes next

AstraZeneca said the detailed results will be presented at a forthcoming international oncology congress and shared with health authorities.
